An enchanting village where tradition and modernity merge and infuse curiosity and charm. Your first indelible image of Bosa will be the historic district of sa Costa, made up of colourful houses climbing the slopes of the Serravalle hill, dominated by the 12-century Malaspina castle. You will reach it on foot: from the top, you will admire the panorama of the entire town. The poetic Lungotemo with the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) that straddles the Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, will accompany your walks to discover the ancient tanneries, which recall the roots of a center famous in Italy from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s for the production of high quality leather. The museum of the Conce also testifies to this.
Inside the village, linger over the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the town's cathedral, and its beautiful frescoes. Inside the castle walls stands the church of Nostra Signora de sos Regnos Altos, embellished with a cycle of paintings dating back to 1370: the most evocative celebrations of the Bosano year take place here at the end of September. Close to the town, in the rural locality of Calmedia, stands the Romanesque church of San Pietro extra muros, originally the centre of Bosa vetus before the population transmigrated to the district of sa Costa (Bosa nova), where you can admire sa funtana manna, a 19th-century monument in red trachyte.
Bosa is the main centre of the historical region of Planargia, a place of craftsmanship and food and wine tradition, which welcomes you with a glass of fine malvasia, one of the best-loved sweet Sardinian wines, and shows you its excellences: coral jewellery, asphodel baskets, textiles, including filet, born from ancient women's knowledge, and, last but not least, fish. Another tradition distinguishes the village: the Karrasegare osincu. The Carnival of Bosa is one of the most characteristic and popular in Sardinia, combining the charm of traditional masks with the allegory of modern carnivals.
At the mouth of the Temo river lies the river marina and next to it Bosa Marina, a popular resort and winner of the Legambiente Blue Guide every year. The beaches of s'Abba Druche, Portu Managu, Turas and Compoltitu complete the scenery of coastal beauty, where you can dive and relax. While if you are keen on trekking and birdwatching, there is the biomarine park of Capo Marrargiu and the nature reserve of Badde Aggiosu and Monte Mannu.
